I feel Codemasters nailed VR racing with this one, sure it is HARD as hell but is because this is not a "full throttle pedal-to-the-metal' racing game no, this is RALLY and demands real skill and precision, almost an integration of you and you vehicle, hell, you your co-pilot and your vehicle MUST work as one.
I actually find this game quite cathartic for some reasons, I don't know, once I'm driving there is just me my co-pilot and the road ahead.
